Sam Donohue

I'm Samantha Donohue, but I prefer to be called Sam! My journey with dance began at a young age, where I found myself dancing everywhere I could. Formal training started at the age of 14 when I discovered my dance home, Release Dance Academy in Levittown, PA. There, I trained in Ballet, Contemporary, Jazz, Musical Theater, and Hip-hop. I expanded my training by taking additional classes at Broadway Dance Center and Millennium Philadelphia. Completely immersed in dance, I knew it was what I wanted to do for the rest of my life.

In 2012, SeaWorld Parks and Entertainment hired me for my first professional job as an in-costume and face character. I worked as a performer for two years and as the dance captain in my third year, concluding my time there with a move to Los Angeles, CA.

Upon arriving in LA, I delved into training in heels, hip-hop, Jazz, jazz funk, ballet, and contemporary. I started assisting Michelle “Jersey” Maniscalco within my first week and continued for several years. Later, I began assisting Dave Scott for various classes and projects. I've had the privilege to dance for artists and companies such as Oakley, Tayla Parks, Disney, MKTO, meUndies, and more. I've also worked behind the scenes as skeleton crew for projects like Sony, So You Think You Can Dance, Pharrell, and others.

From 2017 to 2018, I danced for Academy of Villains, which introduced me to Krump. I quickly fell in love with the rawness, freedom, and powerful movement of Krump, shaping my dance style to be more confident and authentic. Through Krump, I've booked jobs as a freestyler, battled in tournaments, built a worldwide training program, made lasting friendships, and been featured in the Washington Post. Krump opened my mind to playing with extreme elegance and aggression in one space, which in turn lead me to Krump-Contemporary. A fusion of styles.

Since 2022 I’ve been traveling almost every week, sharing my love for dance through teaching on conventions, studio workshops, choreography, and judging competitions. I continue to actively train in Freestyle, Hip Hop Contemporary and Jazz techniques. I am still active in the street dance community as well as the professional commercial industry, participating in battles and performances as opportunities arise.

As a lifelong student and teacher, I believe in constant evolution. Dance has saved me in many ways, and I aim to share that love with anyone, regardless of age, who wants to learn, grow, and experience the joy of dance!
