Shane Bland

Shane is honored to be a part of the Xplosive Faculty! Born into a large theatre family and raised in Edmonton, Alberta, Shane has been working in the world of the performing arts for over 35 years and is excited to share his knowledge of storytelling through musical theater dance! He first stepped on stage professionally at the age of 11 in the Hans Christian Andersen original musical The Cricket on the Hearth. At 13, Shane appeared in the final TV movie that wrapped the historic Canadian series Degrassi High. The summer that followed he attended The National Ballet School in Toronto. At 15, Shane joins Robbin Phillips's production of Man Of La Mancha shining the stage with some of Canada’s best musical theatre talent. At 18, Shane created the dancer/singer swing position for the Toronto company of Harold Prince's Show Boat appearing with Academy Award Winner Cloris Leachman among other entertainment giants from stage and screen! As a creative Shane served as assistant director for several off-Broadyway shows including POPart (NYMF), With Glee and Evergreen (Prospect Theater), Dreyfus in Rehearsal, and El Diva Del Voodoo. Shanes served as director for Diary of a Dancer (Off-Broadway, Washington D.C.). Shane has choreographed productions of Aladdin Jr., The Aristocats Kids, Frozen. Jr, Matilda, The Little Mermaid Jr, and Urintown, and was recently associate choreographer for the Orlando Shakes production of Ain’t Misbehavin.  As a performer, national performing credits include Andrew Lloyd Webber's Bombay Dreams (Original Broadway Cast, 1st National Tour); Disney's The Lion King (Toronto Company); and Harold Prince's Show Boat (Canada, 1st US Tour). Off-broadway and regional credits include: How Now, Dow Jones, The Producers, Pippin, Annie, And The World Goes Round and Next to Normal (Broadway World Award Nom - New Gen Theatricals),  The Beast in Beauty and The Beast (Broadway World Award Nom - Garden Theater), and The Hunchback of Notre Dame in Concert with the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra, Playfest 23’, Ain't Misbehavin at Orlando Shakes. As an arts educator, Shane has served as a teaching artist for the Disney Musicals In School Program, taught musical theater dance and performance workshops throughout North America and Europe, and is an adjudicator for the National High School Music Theatre Jimmy (Applause) Awards. In addition to Xplosive, Shane sits on the faculty at The Orlando Ballet School and The Dr. Phillips Center School for the Arts. Shane recently became a co-producer with his brother Leslie at Bland of Brothers Productions, a Canadian Film and TV production company.
